teaser for bugatti vision gran turismo concept debuting at 2015 frankfurt auto show_100523938_l

Bugatti has joined the mass of automakers taking part in the Vision Gran Turismo challenge, with its concept due to be revealed to the world for the first time at next month’s Frankfurt Auto Show. In the lead up to the unveiling, Bugatti has released a single teaser shot which depicts only part of the concept, possibly the cover for its engine bay.

The Vision Gran Turismo challenge was initiated in 2013 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Gran Turismo video game franchise. The challenge was set by the game’s creator Kazunori Yamauchi who asked design studios from all across the globe to come up with a car that best embodies the spirit of the game, and which fans will be able to download and drive in the latest installment, Gran Turismo 6.

Bugatti says its concept, known as the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo, will allow its numerous fans to experience the brand even though most will unlikely be able to ever afford one of its actual cars.

“Bugatti is the world’s most exclusive super sports car brand and Bugatti cars are only available to an extremely small group of automobile connoisseurs,” Bugatti chief Wolfgang Dürheimer said in a statement. “At the same time Bugatti is admired and loved by countless people throughout the world… They can all benefit from the success of our brand; this is a project for our fans.”

But the concept is more than just a celebration of the Bugatti brand. It’s also a celebration of Bugatti’s future. The automaker says the car will preview the new form and design language developed by the brand for the next chapter in its history, a new supercar possibly named the Chiron that was recently spotted at Los Angeles International Airport.

“Bugatti’s design DNA has reached a new stage in its evolution,” Bugatti design chief Achim Anscheidt said in a statement. “The progressive design language will give an impressive demonstration of the path to be taken by Bugatti design over the next few years.”

Crucially, the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo won’t be a fantasy product like some of the previous designs we’ve seen. Instead, the design team maintained a clear goal of developing a car that could be driven on a real race circuit should it ever be built.

Stay tuned for the full revealed at the Frankfurt Auto Show, which gets underway September 15. For more of our coverage on the German show, head to our dedicated hub.
